If you are in a shipwreck and a piano top comes along, it makes a fortuitous life preserver, but this is not to say that the best way to design a life preserver is in the form of a piano top.

The Problem

Modern life has inadvertently become overly complicated with communication surplus and chaos. We constantly face a barrage of emails, texts, and other forms of communication (Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram). With an overwhelming amount of options and choices — unprioritized communication is cluttering our daily lives.

Our Solution

What if we could control when and how we receive messages? In your house, you may have a gate, a doorbell, a locked front door. These barriers give you privacy and security — only those closest to you or someone with urgent information should be able to move through quickly. This idea is at the heart of CASBU: communication with barriers.

How Do Our Barriers Work?

With CASBU, receivers are able to view messages based on urgency, subject, or sender. Unlike emails or texts, CASBU requires that the sender indicate when a message response is due. The messages and information needing your immediate attention will be presented first and the option to filter by subject allows you to focus on one need at a time. These barriers allow the receiver to tackle messages when it best suits them and see the most important messages while deferring the non-urgent.

Pause: Work-Life Balance

Imagine you’re at your kid’s soccer game — you grab your phone to take a picture but you see an email alert: it’s a minor annoyance at work. You’ve been taken away from the moment and can’t unsee the message. For people who tend to be distracted by the onslaught of emails, or the executive eager to take a tech-free vacation, CASBU’s pause feature allows only the most time-relevant messages to come through. Prioritizing balance and focus, the pause attribute places an important value on your time.

CASBU keeps communication contained while you focus on real work or your personal time.

Menu of Response Options

Historically, communication has been biased towards the sender. We want to give power to the receiver. Not only does the sender have to provide a time by which they need a response, senders can also provide a menu of options for the receiver to choose from. CASBU prompts the sender to put themselves in the position of the receiver, clearly posing questions, and discouraging open-ended ‘back and forth’.

How Does It Look?

With an intuitive and minimalist interface, the parsed-query format of CASBU means you can answer messages in seconds. Rather than a wave of monochromatic messages, our color-coded system indicates urgency. The ability to see deadlines lessens the anxiety of having unattended messages in your inbox.

Is CASBU Secure?

Having barriers means you control what information you give out, who can contact you, and for how long. In a world where we frequently give companies and individuals our phone number and email, CASBU allows for a more contained avenue of communication. End-to-end encryption means your messages stay your own.
